We survived the scorching temperatures over the weekend and while we hope this is the last of it, chances are we’re going to see more throughout the remainder of summer. The best way to stay cool is to take advantage of a pool, whether it be indoor or outdoor, there’s nothing more refreshing than taking a dip in a swimming pool. Here are four amazing pools in some of New York’s new developments this summer.
With today’s headlines focused on supertall skyscrapers and record-defining penthouses, it seems impossible to find a home with the look and feel of a luxury residence without spending millions of dollars. Yet these opportunities do exist in the burgeoning borough of Brooklyn, where a small crop of thoughtfully designed buildings are offering a sophisticated design aesthetic and an amenity-rich lifestyle for well under the $1M mark.
Closings and move-ins have begun at The Brooklyn Grove, but developers Adam America Real Estate and Slate Property Group do not consider their work here finished. On the contrary, they have taken advantage of the milestone to unveil three model units styled by Ali Reeve Design. In a pleasing contrast to the typical white-box offerings, these feature an eye-catching combination of vintage and contemporary furnishings and decorative objects. Moreover, colorful paint techniques and attention-grabbing wallpaper makes a colorful contrast to the calm, neutrals by ODA, which also designed the building’s facade with glazed brick and custom-framed windows.
The Brooklyn Grove, a 184-unit condominium in Downtown Brooklyn, has brought on Ali Reeve Design to create three bold model residences featuring a mix of vintage and unique pieces paired with upholstered furniture, wallpapers and other elements from digital decorating platform The Inside. Rather than hire the go-to stagers used by many developments across the city, the team at The Brooklyn Grove sought to deliver a fresh perspective. Ali Reeve Design looked to The Inside for its personalized and inspired assortment of upholstered furniture. The Inside, which designs essential pieces in exclusive patterns at real-world prices, has collaborated with some of the biggest names in fashion and design. The result is a conceptualized, bold look that embraces color and pattern (in contrast to white box model units), pairing looks from the Inside’s made-to-order and direct-to-consumer offerings with vintage finds and unique pieces.

The Brooklyn Grove has now topped out at 27 stories above Downtown Brooklyn’s buzzing metro-center. Work will now begin on the structure’s exterior, comprised of glazed brick and large residential windows encased in custom metal framing.
In conjunction with the BRIC Biennial: Volume III, South Brooklyn Edition, the Virtual and Real Estate group exhibition features work by artists Pastiche Lumumba, Daniel Bejar, and Betty Yu, that expresses the conundrums that arise from living in an age where the simulated is increasingly confused with the real. Although “estate” has previously been defined as fixed physical properties, the exhibition troubles our notions of property, ownership, circulation, space, and most fundamentally, what it means to be “real.” The Internet provides marginalized communities a virtual space for subversion and play, meanwhile distracting from the physical realities of gentrification and land rezoning. From Lumumba’s embalmed memes to Bejar’s subversion of the ubiquitous real estate billboard, to Yu’s archive of stories by communities affected by gentrification, these works challenges the absurdity of place and placelessness to bear on the chronological depth of lived experience.
